Eucalyptus Tree

When Peter researched and wrote up Wright`s Roots to help celebrate his stepmother Barbara`s eightieth birthday in 2015, it started a wider quest for ancestral discovery. This has had a number of dimensions, for in addition to the wealth of information to be gleaned from sundry online platforms, he`s created a closed Facebook group for his maternal ancestral descendants in particular. This has generated a mine of further information in correspondence, the research of others, and anecdote. All those within the group were so willing to share all that they had for the benefit of the wider family.

Whilst acknowledging that family history is not in everyone`s bag, the fact that its not compulsory is probably just as well. That said, to discover that he was born in the same town as the Wright lineage seems to originate from has been intriguing. So, Kilmarnock in Ayrshire has a special place. On the other side, his maternal grandmother`s maiden name was Crookston, and hey presto, that line seems to originate in the very town where Peter now lives, Linlithgow in West Lothian.

The search for what he would call `scallywags`or baddies within the trees has been relatively unproductive, but some great themes have emerged. The international dimension has almost global spread. The role of women has shown that many somehow bucked the trend and made a mark, whether within their own immediate family and offspring, or in much wider spheres. Music, drama, education, the dichotomy of humanitarian versus Christian motivations, and many other human endeavours emerge within it all. Mortality, memorial, matrimony, legacy, leadership and even humility, all emerge somehow out of the dense foliage of the tree(s). Though some of the research frustratingly, just turns into a tease, when something perhaps intriguing promises so much, is just beyond reach. Even the DNA shows that we are a mongrel race and should be proud of it.

Out of the closed Facebook group for Peter`s maternal ancestry and descent in the Anderson Robertson line, the combined research of many, refined by Alex Wood`s genealogical professionalism, there has emerged a very precise line in the family history. Thanks to the generosity and vision of Richard Stursberg, this has been loaded onto and can be found in Family Treemaker here:
